Problem

A limestone quarry operation needed to locate a new rock collection and crushing operation closer to the mining face to save on high costs of haul truck transportation and maximize the margins on their products.

Solution

Benchmark designed the structure in modules, so that it could be fabricated in sections and moved to the site and installed in a short period of time.  The modules also allow the structure to be disassembled and moved within the quarry to different locations as necessary.  The 6-week schedule was achieved, by designing the lower modules and delivering the drawings to the fabricator, so the structure was built, as it was being designed and fabricated.

Results

Construction costs were reduced by 50% and the structure was in operation 3 months ahead of plan allowing a 20% margin increase.
